Women's Health
Good health doesn't happen by accident, and for women, regular preventative care is one of the most effective tools available. Whether you're due for a cervical screen, thinking about contraception, navigating a pregnancy, or managing the changes that come with perimenopause, a GP is your first and most accessible point of contact.
At Crown West Medical in Wollongong, we offer a broad range of women's health services in a confidential, inclusive environment.
Cervical Screening: Are You Up to Date?
Australia's National Cervical Screening Programme is one of the most effective in the world. Under current guidelines, women and people with a cervix aged 25 to 74 who have ever been sexually active are recommended to have a Cervical Screening Test (CST) every five years. The CST checks for HPV, the virus responsible for almost all cervical cancers, replacing the older Pap smear test.
If you're overdue, booking is simple. Call us or book online.
Contraception and Reproductive Health
Our GPs can discuss and prescribe the full range of contraceptive options, including the pill, Implanon (arm implant) insertion, IUD referrals, and emergency contraception. We also provide medical termination of pregnancy (MTOP) services, in accordance with NSW legislation. All appointments are completely confidential.
Pregnancy Care and Antenatal Shared Care
If you're pregnant or planning a pregnancy, our GPs provide early pregnancy care and antenatal shared care in partnership with Wollongong Hospital. Shared care means you'll see your GP throughout your pregnancy alongside hospital specialists, a model that research consistently supports for maternal and newborn health.
Menopause and Perimenopause Support
Perimenopause and menopause affect every woman differently. Hot flushes, disrupted sleep, mood changes, and vaginal discomfort are all common, and none of them need to simply be endured. Our GPs are experienced in menopause management and can discuss Menopausal Hormone Therapy (MHT) where appropriate, alongside lifestyle and non-hormonal options.
Breast Health and Screening
Women aged 50 to 74 are eligible for free mammograms every two years through BreastScreen NSW. If you're in your 40s or have a family history of breast cancer, speak with your GP about whether earlier or more frequent screening makes sense for you. Breast changes or concerns can also be assessed at your appointment.
